TAX TIME TIPS

It’s that time of the year again. The income tax filing season has begun and important tax documents should be arriving in the mail. Even though your return is not due until April 15, 2025 getting an early start will make filing easier. Here are tips that will help your tax filing process run smoother than ever this year.

Start gathering your records - Round up any documents or forms you’ll need when filing your taxes: receipts, canceled checks and other documents that support income or deductions you’re claiming on your return.

Be on the lookout - W-2s and 1099s will be coming soon; you’ll need these to file your tax return.

Consider Direct Deposit - If you elect to have your refund directly deposited into your bank account, you’ll receive it faster than waiting for a paper check.

Don’t panic! - If you run into a problem, remember I am here to help.

PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!

IRS offers the following tips as ways to protect you from becoming a victim of identity theft:
  • Don’t carry your Social Security card or any documents that include your Social Security number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
  • Don’t give a business your SSN or ITIN just because they ask. Give it only when required.
  • Protect your financial information.
  • Check your credit report every 12 months.
  • Review your Social Security Administration earnings statement annually.
  • Secure personal information in your home.
  • Protect your personal computers by using firewalls and anti-spam/virus software, updating security patches and changing passwords for Internet accounts.
  • Don’t give personal information over the phone, through the mail or on the Internet unless you have initiated the contact or you are sure you know who you are dealing with.
